Isos recognises that it can make a significant contribution towards increasing sustainability and reducing environmental harm.

All of our homes are built to high standards of energy efficiency.
Energy in new domestic dwellings built by Housing Associations is the subject of a large number of standards and guidance.

The basic standards are set out in the Building Regulations Part L1A. There are now stricter standards in terms of insulation, and there are new requirements for airtightness for dwellings.

The Housing Corporation also sets out energy standards which it expects all homes it funds to meet or exceed.

The BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) EcoHomes scheme gives points for reducing energy wastage above Building Regulations minimum standards. The Housing Corporation insists that Housing Associations achieve an EcoHomes 'very good' rating for all new housing.

During the EcoHomes process, it is common for Isos to employ specialists to perform ecological surveys on development sites. It is our aim to protect the environment through conserving indigenous plant species wherever possible.
