Tynedale youth event gets 'Sele' of approval

Released on 08 July 2010

Milecastle Housing has given Tynedale's youth event the 'sele' of approval, pledging £3,000 to ensure that this year's Selefest is a success.

After months of uncertainty as to whether Selefest would be able to go ahead this year, Milecastle Housing was one of the first to step forward and give its full support to the event, which will take place on the 17th July at Sele Park in Hexham.

Thanks to the donation and the ongoing support of John Temple, Milecastle Housing's Resident Involvement Officer, the organisers, Tynedale Youth Forum, were able to encourage others to join them to celebrate Northumberland's young talent, through sport, art, music and culture.

"Selefest is a fantastic event," said John Temple. "It gives the young people and the young at heart a chance to get involved in organising something really positive for the community, so Milecastle Housing is pleased to be supporting this year's event."

Selefest 2010 will provide a fantastic mix of local bands, acoustic sets and DJs next to the fearless Team Extreme, the UK's only extreme sports team of BMX, skateboarding and inline skaters. With activities including a graffiti wall, forest skills workshops and face painting, alongside refreshments, a variety of stalls, a teenage health road show and much, much more, it is set to be one of the best yet.

Keda Norman from the Tynedale Youth Forum said: "We're really glad that this year's Selefest will be able to go ahead. Milecastle Housing is a big part of the local community, so we're excited to have its support. We've got a great lineup of activities and performers, making it a great day out for local people of all ages."

Selefest takes place at Sele Park, Hexham, on Saturday 17 July from 12 - 5pm. For more information please contact the Tourist Information Office on 01434 652220, visit www.visitnortheastengland.com or search for Selefest 2010 on Facebook.
