II.2) Quantity or Scope of the Contract
II.2.1) Total quantity or scope (including all lots and options, if applicable):
The solution should propose server hardware and storage that will be scalable and will be split between two data centres to provide Disaster Recovery resilience. Server Hardware must be supplied by a mainstream industry supplier. Both server and storage solutions must be supported 24 hours x 7 days per week directly by the manufacturer. We are willing to consider storage solutions from smaller manufacturers but they must be able to offer direct 24/7 cover and have a proven track record of supplying storage solutions for VMware View. The solution must include standard resilience such as dual power supplies, management cards etc. Hosted and cloud based solutions will not be considered. The virtual desktop will be based on Windows 7, we have a strong preference for 64bit SP1 and Thin App streaming although we acknowledge we may need to consider 32bit SP1 as an alternative depending on compatibility issues. The majority of our applications are industry standard products including Office 2010 and Sharepoint 2010. We anticipate building the gold image in-house with support from the supplier to ensure maximum efficiency of the image. Support with Thin App will probably be required. Solutions should include an external gateway for secure access by users over the internet, this solution will be expected to support 50 concurrent users and integrate with our RSA two-factor authentication system. The solution MUST present a virtual desktop using VMware View protocols and the central VDI servers. Potential suppliers must be prepared to support both Wyse and iGel Thin client devices but can provide an alternative which will be considered. Potential suppliers who proceed to tender will be provided with the output from a Lanamark system audit which they can use to size an appropriate solution. The solution must be guaranteed to perform satisfactorily at these levels of use. The supplier will be expected to provide thin client terminals, software to convert existing PCs into thin clients, servers and storage to support the VMware View servers, VMware software licences (at NHF pricing or below), consultancy services, hardware and software support and maintenance and consultancy services to aide implementation. The project will be managed by ICT team members using the Prince II methodology, we will not expect any supplier to propose substantive project management consultancy in their response.
