Community Walkabouts (former Castle Morpeth Housing)

What is the purpose of Community Walkabouts?

Priestley Court fun day balloon animalsTo give our tenants and other members of the community the opportunity to get out and about with officers and monitor the general state of the neighbourhoods. Officers from various departments (led by the tenancy services officer responsible for the particular area of the borough) tour a specific area to check on the state of gardens, property exteriors, rubbish, parking problems and other breaches of tenancy agreement. We also look out for any other problems with the environment that are not our responsibility but that could be reported to other agencies such as the local authority or police. We encourage our tenants to join us on the walkabouts to point out any problems they are experiencing.

What actually happens at a Community Walkabout?

The team walk around the chosen area looking out for any problems, making a note of any issues that they see, sometimes knocking on doors where appropriate. Once the walkabout is complete the tenancy services officer will write to any tenants who are in breach of their tenancy agreement asking them to deal with the problem within a set timescale. The repairs inspector will report any repairs that are highlighted.
