Victim support logoDomestic Violence

Domestic violence means threatening behaviour, violence or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual or emotional) by another adult who is, or has been, an intimate partner or family member.

If you contact us regarding domestic abuse, we will ensure confidentiality and will not contact any other agency or the perpetrator without the victim's agreement - the only exception being if we are required by law to provide information or if we need to protect children or vulnerable adults.

An interview regarding your report of domestic violence will be arranged as soon as possible, within 24 hours of the report being made.

The Sanctuary Scheme

The Sanctuary Scheme helps prevent victims of domestic violence becoming homeless. It is available to victims of domestic violence who require additional security measures in order to remain safely within their own home.

Sanctuary work can include the installation of alarms, mortice locks, security lights, window locks and CCTV. It can also provide a "safe room" within the house with a reinforced door and other security measures so the victim can retreat to that room if under threat and telephone for help.

All referrals are made via the police. Each application is accompanied by a comprehensive risk assessment and a risk management plan. Sanctuary work can only be carried out when the perpetrator no longer lives at the address.
